Founded by the botanist Pedro Nahoum in 2000, Botanica Pop Ltd. is a Brazilian company specialized in breeding and propagation of CAM metabolism plants, focused on genetic resources of Bromeliaceae and Cactaceae.

Since 1986 Pedro Nahoum has been growing native plants from seed in tropical conditions close to the Atlantic Forest on the coast of Rio de Janeiro State, in Niterói, Maricá and Quissamã counties. 

In over 3 decades of activities Nahoum introduced in greenhouses new wild species, made assisted reproduction and developed new clonal varieties for the fruit and the flower international markets. 

In 2009, after 15 years of greenhouse growing in Maricá (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) a new farm of sustainable agriculture was started at 250 km Northeast of Rio city limits, for plant breeding and commercial production - the Terraços Marinhos farm, in Quissamã - the 3rd Imperial district. 

There In the sandy irrigated fields research and production are currently, with tested innovative and new natural agricultural CAM varieties and the production of pineapples, bromeliads, cacti, xerophytes and native wild berries.

The main breeding programs in the company are the Red Pineapple 'PUA®' new fruit and the Mandacaru Cereus cactus for fruit and forage production in dry areas. Using extensive germplasm banks that cover Ananas, Cereus and several different genera in diversified gene pools, the programs reached the 12th generation since 1989, and more than 95.000 exclusive new genotypes were obtained and have been valued.

 Botanica Pop Ltd. has institutional partnerships with UENF - Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense and JBRJ - Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro IBAMA / MMA, and have been supported in research, development & innovation projects by FAPERJ - Fundação de Apoio à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro and FINEP - Agência Brasileira de Inovação, from state and federal governments. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Supply (MAPA), BNDES, FIRJAN and SEBRAE institutions also have been contributing significantly for the Botanica Pop Ltd. purposes.
